At the 31st Watches & Wonders fair in Geneva, Panerai is unveiling some new models in the Submersible collection, with a new dial size and an eye to sustainability, targeting the more adventurous types.
QuarantaQuattro : a new dimension
Do you have something in between? The answer, now, is yes! Previously available in 42 and 47mm diameters, the Submersible now also comes with a 44mm case. It has the same features as its older siblings (300m depth rating, 3-day power reserve, date and dive time), but the appearance has been updated. There are three styles to choose from: steel with black dial, steel with white dial (Bianco) and ocean blue with Carbotech™ case (lighter and more scratch- and corrosion-resistant than titanium – Carbotech™ Blu Abiss). In keeping with its commitment to sustainability, the manufacture ships these timepieces with one strap made from 30% recycled rubber and another made from 68% recycled fabric. But Panerai doesn’t stop there.
eSteel™ joins the dance
2022 looks set to be a year where sustainability is at the top of the firm’s agenda, spearheaded by the advent of eSteel™ in the Submersible collection. This 52% recycled steel forms the foundation of three new Submersibles: Verde Smeraldo (green), Grigio Roccia (charcoal grey) and Blu Profondo (blue). 72g of each watch’s 137g weight is made up of recycled elements. eSteel is virtually identical to virgin steel in terms of chemical composition, physical structure and corrosion resistance. In a new departure for the maison, the unidirectional bezel in steel has a highly polished surface, and the dial colour is graduated, giving the collection a new dimension. Panerai continues the theme of environmentally conscious choices by providing one strap in recycled PET fabric and a second in recycled rubber.
America’s Cup
The Italian maison is resuming its role as official sponsor of the Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli team, which is competing in the 37th America’s Cup. To mark the occasion, Panerai has created the Submersible QuarantaQuattro Luna Rossa, a 44m steel watch in the livery of the Italian team, with a dark blue strap accented with a red line, and the inscription “Luna Rossa” in white, plus a small seconds dial in the same colours. The team’s name also features on the dial, which is an appropriately oceanic intense blue.
