Two Themes for Season 4 - Watch Photo Awards
1 minute read
That's a wrap!

For its fourth edition, the world’s first international photography competition open to the general public invited watch owners from all over the globe to produce a photographic composition on two broad themes: “Freedom” and “Our Animal Friends”.

Two Themes for Season 4

Throughout the month of July, the Watch Photo Awards focused on freedom (something we’ve all missed!). Participants were invited to take a photo of their watch in a setting that evoked the theme of freedom. In August, the theme was “Our Animal Friends”, which could apply to pets or to less domesticated fauna.

Each month, a five-person jury voted on the best photos, according to how well they met the criteria of aesthetic appeal, technical proficiency and compliance with the theme. Ten shots were selected for each topic. The public then voted for the best of the best, which you can see here, full size. The two winning photographers were rewarded with a getaway at the Château de Bonmont in the Geneva region (Switzerland).

A prestigious showcase

The two groups of ten finalist photos will be featured in horological publications, as well as going on show to the public. The shortlisted images for Freedom, from July, were published in WorldTempus, and will also feature in the GMT Autumn magazine issue. The August finalists for “Our Animal Friends” will be published in the GMT Winter issue. The images will also be visible at the Musée Rath in Geneva from 22 October to 13 November 2021. Arrangements are currently being finalised for a special exhibition to take place during Dubai Watch Week, and the Time to Watches fair in Geneva in the spring of 2022. It’s quite a showcase for our photography enthusiast readers!

The next edition of the Watch Photo Awards will kick off in spring 2022. Sign up here to make sure you don’t miss out.
