Three watches with a hint of green - Watches with colour

Three watches from independent brands that wear their bold green colours with pride.

It was a trend that was much more noticeable for ladies’ watches, but the start of the year has seen a trio of timepieces for men that use some bold green accents to stand out.

Schwarz-Etienne Roswell 08

Trois montres vertes

Schwarz-Etienne’s first two new models for 2018 offer an unusual combination of brown with either orange or green accents. Rather than the usual dark chocolate brown, this brown is a lighter shade (milk chocolate, as we Brits might say) that is applied to the visible movement components and the flange around the dial as a PVD coating. The bright orange and green accents are used for the Roswell 08’s signature function – the date disc between 1 and 2 o’clock, which has been angled at 10 degrees for optimum legibility and is directly in your line of sight for reading the date without needing to move your wrist. Schwarz-Etienne shows off the entire rapid-date setting mechanism on the dial side (the date can easily be moved forwards in one-day jumps using the pusher below the crown), at the expense of the Roswell’s signature dial-side micro-rotor, which unusually remains hidden from view. Like the shade of brown, the green is also an unusual hue, being more apple green than the darker tones found on the models below. The same colour is used for the stitching on the brown leather strap. As for the colour choice, that is down to Schwarz-Etienne’s CEO Mauro Egermini, who likes green. He also likes science fiction, which is why the collection is called Roswell (where a UFO is reputed to have landed in 1947) and why the case back has a holographic engraving that was inspired by the film The Matrix.
Price: 15,400 Swiss francs.

Louis Moinet Metropolis

Trois montres vertes

Compared with the other Louis Moinet models with tourbillons and double tourbillons, which cost upwards of 200,000 Swiss francs, the Metropolis in stainless steel offers excellent value at just 10,900 Swiss francs and is a limited edition of 60 pieces (it is also available with an 18-carat rose gold case). The new Magic Green model builds on the success of the first model, which had a striking blue dial, but the new colour took 12 months to develop in order to match the intensity of the blue. The colour and structure of the dial are indeed unique and it comes as no surprise that Louis Moinet is keeping the technique used to produce it a secret. The Metropolis Magic Green is powered by the LM45 calibre, which is a self-winding movement with a power reserve of 48 hours.

Czapek & Cie Quai des Bergues “Rainforest Green”

Trois montres vertes

Czapek & Cie has introduced bold colours for its unique engine-turned dials and extended them to the smaller 38.5mm case size. The new collection includes a “Rainforest Green” model with a dark green lacquer on the engine-turned dial and a matching green leather strap. The piece is not a limited edition per se but Czapek & Cie has introduced a new product strategy this year which involves producing in small series. Only 10 watches in this colour will be produced in the first series of this new collection, costing 14,800 Swiss francs in stainless steel.
