Once every four years, a special month becomes extra special

We find ourselves at peak glamour as we plunge into the first week of February — the preceding weeks were stuffed with headlines about various award ceremonies, from the Golden Globes to the Grammys and the BAFTA awards that took place just last evening. The biggest one of all is still to come, however; the 92nd Academy Awards takes place on 9 February. Never let it be said that the watch industry is isolated and out of touch with modern culture, however, we at WorldTempus have been hit by red-carpet fever, as evidenced by this month’s editorial spotlight — everyday glamour.

The rise of casual chic, both in the workplace and in daily life, has meant that good old-fashioned elegance has been relegated to the attic, to be dusted off only for extra-special occasions. But why shouldn’t quotidian life have its touch of glamour? Let’s face it: we all need a little sparkle in our day.

Not only do we have a lively schedule of articles lined up for you throughout the month, covering a range of topics from the evolution of dress watches to a breakdown of the biggest celebrity watch headlines in recent years — we’re also heading into romantic territory with our special Valentine’s Day programme. (That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, Valentine’s Day is coming up, so don’t say we didn’t warn you. Make a note of it. Be on high alert for any hints dropped by your loved ones. And watch out for our upcoming gift guide. We’re always thinking of you.)

What makes this February more special than all other Februaries (well, three out of every four anyway) is that 2020 is a leap year. February 2020 gets an extra day this year, and owners of perpetual calendars all over the world are rejoicing in the opportunity to see their complicated pieces of wrist-machinery click into action and show off what they can do.

We haven’t forgotten about that either. The last two weeks of February are all about Perpetual Calendars — everything you ever wanted to know (and some things you didn’t).

February is always going to be the shortest month of the year. But this time, it’s also one of our busiest.
