Editorial The Lady by GMT special issue is out

WorldTempus is delighted to bring its female readers the new Lady by GMT magazine, with a completely new and updated layout.

In a highly symbolic gesture, the women-only special issue from our partner GMT, which first appeared ten years ago, has inverted the words of its title: GMT Lady is now Lady by GMT. The change is significant: not only has the layout been given a thorough overhaul, it also has completely new content and contributors. The publication no longer reads like the only watch magazine devoted to ladies’ watches and jewellery; it’s a women’s magazine focusing on watches and jewellery. This welcome initiative is the work of a steering committee made up entirely of women, chaired by GMT Publishing’s sales director, Liah Millasson. I thank them wholeheartedly for their hard work over the summer, and I trust our readers will appreciate the result. The 100-page magazine is now available on newsstands in Switzerland and on international digital platforms, but WorldTempus is bringing it to you now through this link.

Spectacular cover image

Who but TAG Heuer would choose to associate the king of animals with the queen of social media, immortalised by the prince of wildlife photographers, David Yarrow? But there’s no place for the law of the jungle, where this urban ambassador and the king of the savannah are concerned; neither dominates the other, mutual respect reigns. And that’s not just because actress and model Cara Delevingne was born under the zodiac sign of Leo. She has a lion tattooed on her index finger, as a symbol of strength and courage. Why does this millennial icon embody the spirit of the Carrera Lady by TAG Heuer? You can find some answers in the GMT article. The black-and-white photograph of beauty and the beast contrasts with the title Lady in molten gold, a reference to the colour of the big cat’s fur. It’s the first reference to gold in the magazine, but by no means the last.

Legendary brands

Chopard’s commitment to ethically sourced gold will help to raise readers’ awareness of the brand’s less visible values, while the high jewellery portfolio illustrated in the magazine will delight the senses. Moving to a very different style, an excursion to Rome showcases the strong influence of Andy Warhol and Pop Art on Bulgari’s high jewellery creations. No self-respecting women’s luxury magazine would be complete without referencing some aspect of Chanel’s heritage of fine craftsmanship, and Lady by GMT of course is no exception. The magazine content is dense and varied, with new features including Fashion Week, IT Girl and Red Carpet providing interesting reading and plenty of eye candy. Some forty watches represent a wide range of gift suggestions, accompanied by articles focusing on jewellery.

Trailblazing women

You can find out about the behind-the-scenes work of Anita Porchet, the “girl who played with fire”, and Karine Bauzin the “photographer of time”, and read insights from half a dozen watch female company directors who are more accustomed to the limelight. When asked about her greatest professional achievement, Aletta Stas (co-founder and board member of Frédérique Constant) replied: “To build our brand from nothing with my husband. We have worked on it unremittingly for the past 30 years with a lot of passion and I am proud to see the progress we have made.”  For Fabienne Lupo (President of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie), her greatest personal accomplishment is “My family! It's a blended family that is very endearing and loving and that has supported me since I met my partner 15 years ago. His sons, my daughter, our son and his family in the broad sense of the term give me precious, warm and happy moments.” What matters most to Delphine Flavier (Managing Director of Montblanc Suisse) is UNICEF. “As the mother of two children, I think protecting children in general is very important, as well as ensuring that they are fulfilled and educated. I have loved being able to pass on a taste for reading and discovery to them. This ability which may seem commonplace to some is often a privilege for many children in the world.” Sophie Dubuis (Director of Bucherer Genève) talked about her favourite piece of jewellery: “My Joy solitaire  which has a magnificent 1ct diamond surrounded by 26 other diamonds. It is part of the Bucherer collection, reminding me daily of what a privilege it is to work for such a wonderful Maison It was given to me by my spouse and is a piece of jewelry that symbolizes great happiness.”
