Gravitational waves, jewellery watches and an ode to purity

We find it hard to let go of the love from Valentine’s day with a host of jewellery models on the site this week.

Our article on the future of time and the possibility that the universe as we know it could just be an illusion took a rather extreme, but theoretically valid, view. As last week’s monumental discovery of gravitational waves showed, we still have a lot to learn about our universe. Real-life observation of another element posited in Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity is confirmed. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s barely a pin-prick in the evolution of time. You would need to wait longer to correct an A. Lange & Söhne moonphase, for example!

Valentine’s Day may be over for another year but there is no shortage of ladies’ watches on WorldTempus this week. In fact, the site is dominated today by sparkling timepieces such as the New Retro Lady baguette models by de Grisogono and the Cat’s Eye Water Lily from Girard-Perregaux, both of which are presented as Baselworld previews.

Chanel’s new Signature collection offers the very best in fine jewellery, naturally with timepieces to match. Nazanin Lankarani takes a closer look in her article published today, while David Chokron will present the magnificent high-jewellery watches from Cartier that were only visible behind the protective glass of their showcases at this year’s SIHH.

Later on this week we will vacillate between the pure and the extremely complex. David Chokron promises us an ode to purity based on what he saw at this year’s SIHH, while our editor-in-chief has been grappling with the juxtaposition of high-tech fluid mechanics and high-end watchmaking after spending a long Valentine’s week-end with the HYT H2 Tradition. Read his review later this week.
