Paris was the focus of two major new launches last week as Bell & Ross presented several new models and Jean-Claude Biver now starts to make his imprint on Zenith.

Summer is still lingering in Geneva with balmy temperatures and the chance still to eat al fresco at lunchtime, but the season for new watch launches is already upon us as we start to look ahead to the SIHH 2017. Vacheron Constantin was one of the first SIHH brands to present some preview pieces last week and, judging by their calibre (as I will discuss later this week) these watches suggest big things from the brand next January.

It was, however, in Paris that last week’s major launches took place. We brought news of Zenith’s exciting new partnership with Range Rover on Friday and today David Chokron reports from his first-hand look at the new Bell & Ross models also presented in Paris.

A. Lange & Söhne fan Rafael Fernandez reviews the trio of Northern Lights watches produced by the Saxon manufacture this Wednesday, while Olivier Müller takes a look at some of the special edition watches made for specific events throughout the year. We also have a few watches on test on the wrists of various members of the editorial team and you will be able to read our impressions on them very soon.

Camille Gendre is becoming a regular visitor to the Richemont Campus to learn about the new training programmes offered by the group. On her latest visit last week she discovered the new engraving workshop. You can read her report on Friday. For my part, I took advantage of the launch of the new Jacob & Co. Astronomia Meteorite for a quick look back at the brand’s 30 years, its knack for producing mind-bogglingly complicated watches and the rapid evolution of the Astronomia collection.

By the time you read this, I will already be relaxing by the pool as I finally take my summer holidays. For the next two weeks, therefore, I leave you in the capable hands of Michèle Brunner and Camille Gendre, who will continue to bring you our weekly newsletter in my absence.
