Video. The Pinkie Promise Sculpture by Sally McKay

The launch of a new collection.

Taking inspiration from the infamous love locks attached to bridges and landmarks all over the world binding people’s love for eternity, Baume & Mercier has adapted the concept to celebrate and emphasise the special promise that this act creates between two individuals. Drawing on childhood traditions and evoking joyful memories, Sally McKay has created a sculpture portraying a “pinkie promise” detailing two hands with the two little (pinkie) fingers entwined. The hand-crafted sculpture signifies a long lasting bond between two people.

Each time a promise is made it will be sealed by attaching a specially made Baume & Mercier Promesse padlock to the sculpture. As more padlocks are attached, the sculpture will evolve resulting in a timeless art piece celebrating and preserving that special moment the promise was made. A limited number of padlocks have been produced as part of the new collection launch that consumers will be able to lock to the bespoke Promesse Sculpture. The sculpture will be displayed in a special Promesse exhibition in the Fine Watch Room on the Ground Floor at Harrods, in London,  during the month of September.

Taking approximately 100 hours to complete, this elegant sculpture has been meticulously crafted using a build-up of layers of wire sprayed in shades of orange to complement the silver padlocks, the effect is both of fragility and strength.
