Of time, summer and cars - GMT summer issue
2 minutes read
GMT No. 47 has just been published – be among the first to read it.

Such are the key themes of this seasonal edition, a media oasis free of any football frenzy. The perfect time for travel, summer brings a whirl of multiple time-zone dials that have bursting out in the wake of this spring’s Baselworld. GMT and worldtimer models have inspired small and big brands, whose creations equipped with these functions are unveiled in our pages, clustered in our Innovation column and united in a new “Timezone watches” category that the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie is devoting to them in 2016. Throughout the summer, the specialized worldtempus.com website will be analyzing the main contenders for the winner’s title.

Another driving trend in 2016 watch news relates to its ties with the automobile industry that have doubtless never been so dense and varied. These are notably expressed through design and materials, as well as in themed limited series that will be dotted like milestones along your reading route. Highlighted on our cover page, A. Lange & Söhne lends its touch to the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, while Richard Mille continues in high gear at the wheel of his brand, as our interview illustrates. Our Art Director naturally wished to match this mechanical momentum with a car-meets-watch photo shoot, which also salutes the birth of the very first automobile concours d’élégance organized in  witzerland, land of gentlemen collectors, which Zenith is partnering.

If time, with its endless variety of elegant interpretations, could perhaps allow the watchmaking biosphere to settle down for a serene sunny season while gearing up to bloom and flourish thereafter, its creative stimulus could doubtless do without turbo thrusts and focus more on soft energy alternatives…
