30 years of boldness and innovation - Jacob & Co.
Thirty years young, the age of endless possibilities? Undoubtedly! Yet right from the outset, Jacob & Co. lost no time in opting to make challenges an art of living and the quest for performance a philosophy.

Ever since its creation by Jacob Arabo in 1986, boldness and innovation have been the enduring mission of Jacob & Co., is ambition and its reason for being. In three decades, the New York-based House has perpetually defied the laws of mechanics, asserting itself among Haute Horlogerie experts and collectors as a force to be reckoned with in terms of precision and technical sophistication.

It is therefore hardly surprising that this anniversary year is bringing excellent technical surprise. The truly spectacular Astronomia Sky Celestial Panorama Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon embodies Jacob Arabo’s fascination for astronomical phenomena. In developing this impressive timepiece that procures a strange sense of owning the universe, Jacob & Co. drew inspiration from village astronomical clocks, representing authentic technical and aesthetic masterpieces.

Already in 2015, Jacob & Co. had dazzled the watch industry with the launch of the Astronomia Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon, a feat now further enhanced by an unprecedented complication: a three-dimensional sidereal display combined with a celestial star map and a day/night indication. Entirely spanning the case-back of the new Astronomia Sky model, the celestial dial performs a complete rotation in one sidereal year, meaning the time the Earth takes to make one full turn around the Sun in relation to the fixed stars. The celestial dial is made of blue grade 5 titanium adorned with 18K gold stars and hand-engraved zodiac signs.

"In developing this impressive timepiece that procures a strange sense of owning the universe, Jacob & Co. drew inspiration from village astronomical clocks, representing authentic technical and aesthetic masterpieces."

Above the sidereal dial, the oval celestial star map reveals the stars that are visible from the Northern hemisphere. This dial makes one full turn in a sidereal day, meaning the time taken by the Earth to spin once on its axis (23.560916 hours). Spinning at the center of the satellite’s axis is a lacquered and hand-engraved titanium globe protected by a tinted sapphire crystal dome symbolizing day and night. The globe turns in step with the rhythm of the satellites, performing a complete rotation every 20 minutes.

To showcase the full technical force involved in powering the Astronomia Sky, Jacob & Co. has chosen a majestic 47mm-diameter pink gold case topped by a sapphire dome enabling the eye to enter the very heart of the movement.
The colossal 50mm black gold case of the new Astronomia Gravitational Triple Axis Tourbillon Black Gold issued in an 18-piece limited series provides a visually stunning stage-setting for the choreography performed by the central axis’ four satellites. The latter all turn continuously about the dial in 20 minutes, while the gravitational triple-axis tourbillon combines this motion with a 60-second spin around a horizontal axis and a five-minute revolution around a vertical axis. On the opposite side, the hours and minutes indication features an ingenious differential system ensures the wearer can always read the time smoothly and easily, since the hour-markers remain vertical. Pivoting on the ends of their respective arms, the magnesium-lacquered Earth appears facing the moon represented by a spherical diamond with 288 facets (patented Jacob Cut) which reflects each ray of light in multiple directions and lights up the star-studded aventurine sky during the 60-second rotation around an independent axis. A singular and remarkable observatory of the mysteries of the universe, engaged in a perpetual dance exercising infinite fascination. Enough to set your head spinning…

The world-first Twin Turbo combines two triple-axis tourbillons with a minute repeater. A regulator system serves to balance the paths of these tourbillons, which respective spin in 40 seconds, three minutes and eight minutes per rotation, ensuring that they move symmetrically and at the same speed. The low-pitched minute repeater with a cathedral gong provides a modern approach to time by striking the hours, 10-minute (decimal) intervals – instead of the traditional 15 minutes – and minutes. A security system avoids it being triggered during the time adjustment. A rare fact for a Grand Complication, the two tourbillons and the minute repeater are fitted inside a 63-part ‘form’ case. Its sporting look combines titanium and carbon to ensure an ultra-light feel. Inspired by automobile design, its inner bezel ring is carved from red neoralithe and its smoky sapphire crystal reveals the large ‘engine’ powering the two triple-axis tourbillons.

A retro look meets fascinating complications as Jacob & Co. creates revolutionary watches providing impressively powerful interpretations of the tourbillon

With the Epic SF24 Flying Tourbillon model, Jacob & Co. unveils the 12th tourbillon of its Grand Complications collection. Powered by Caliber JCAA03 with its 528 components, this masterpiece enables its owner to travel the world in the blink of an eye. In this instance, the design is a blast from the past with a deliciously retro look enhanced by a surprising 24-hour dual-time displays. The latter is incorporated into a cylindrical tube and inspired by the split-flap arrival and departure boards found in airports and railway stations. A simple press on the single pusher serves to display the name of a new city and the corresponding time.
Echoing the decoration on the Twin Turbo movement, the upper part of the tourbillon is adorned with an abstract architecture composed of openworked metal triangles. A symbol of stability, spirituality and determination, this motif cherished by the brand founder Jacob Arabo has become inseparably associated with Jacob & Co. As indeed have performance, technical prowess and aesthetic boldness, the unmistakable brand isgnatures for the past 30 years.
