Profile of the brand's founder.

Born Peter Neville Speake in England in 1968, Peter Speake-Marin (who took his wife’s name when he got married) trained in watchmaking at Hackney Technical College in London, and at the WOSTEP in Switzerland. On returning to the UK he got a job with Somlo Antiques in Piccadilly, London, where he was made responsible for setting up a department for the restoration of antique watches. Over the next seven years he became familiar with the creations of some of the great names of watchmaking, and went to live in Switzerland to learn about contemporary complications with Renaud & Papi.

In his spare time he worked on the Foundation Watch, a pocket watch that earned him membership of the AHCI (Académie Horlogère des Créateurs Indépendants). Peter Speake-Marin launched out on his own at the turn of the millennium, and brought out his first wristwatch, in a case christened the Piccadilly in memory of his professional beginnings, in 2003. Peter Speake-Marin has worked with other brands, but in 2008 he decided to focus solely on his own Speake-Marin designs. In August 2017 he left the company he created to concentrate on a personal project called The Naked Watchmaker. In 2018 he launched a new watch brand called Stoic World.
