Boucheron Cicada
Baselworld - This watch was created in honor of the Cicada
The head and body of the cicada are created using green tourmalines and match one another. The head is a cabochon, the body a gadroon with 8 pink sapphires at its centre, like a treasure hidden within the cicada. The ultra-fine veined lower wings are made of translucent pink mother-of-pearl drawing the eye to their wonderful delicacy, while the diamonds on the upper wings capture the light.
Set against the mother-of-pearl face, with its blue and pink gradations, the cicada seems to herald the arrival of the morning, in keeping with legend; it is said that the cicada feeds only on dew and songs.
A lyrical creature by nature, the Chinese and Ancient Greeks were fascinated by the cicada’s song, so much so that some would always keep one in the wicker baskets at their side so that they could hear it. Associated with warmth, the cicada also heralds blissful summer days.
