Focus on the Santos de Cartier

The aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, for whom Louis Cartier created a wrist-watch in 1904, was renowned for his pioneering spirit and dandy-like character. More than a century after the birth of the Santos watch, the thousand and one facets of his personality continue to permeate this collection, which is among the most emblematic of Cartier’s approach to watchmaking. The medium-sized Santos de Cartier watch sees the steel case given a new twist by a fine setting of 206 diamonds on the bezel. An elegant way to highlight its curved lines punctuated by eight visible screws. These distinctive features of the collection are also found on the metal bracelet, which can be switched out for an alligator strap in the blink of an eye. Beating time beneath its elegant blue dial – instantly recognizable by the railroad minutes track and stylized Roman numerals – is mechanical self-winding Caliber 1847 MC. Neither quite the same nor entirely different, the Santos embodies an ideal blend of technology and aesthetics.
