I know it seems like we just got over the breathless, jam-packed and sleep-deprived week of Geneva Watch Days, but buckle up, my dear WorldTempus family, because we’re bracing ourselves for a stupendous end to the year.
If, for any reason whatsoever, you’ve completely missed the headlines of Geneva Watch Days (GWD), you might like to know that there’s a quick and easy (and, may I say, fun!) way to catch up on what went on. Our daily video reports on the top news at GWD 2023 can be found on our site as well as on our YouTube channel. If you prefer absorbing horological news and coverage in written form, our dedicated GWD site page is where you’ll find everything we’ve written about the watches launched at this event. Pro tip: scroll even further down the page if you need to refresh your memory on what went down at GWD 2022.
The Only Watch charity auction is holding its 10th edition this year, and I don’t like to make predictions about the future, but I’m confident in saying that the auction in November will be unlike anything we’ve ever seen in watch auction history. You may think that November is still some time away, but things are already starting to happen this month. WorldTempus will be in Monaco at the end of this month, where Only Watch is based, to bring you an inside look at this exciting event as it shifts into high gear. As always, the Only Watch lots will be on exhibition at the Monaco Yacht Show, but rest assured that there is plenty more planned to commemorate this important anniversary.
Already live on WorldTempus is the beginning of our Only Watch 2023 coverage, especially since some of the watches made their official press debut at GWD. Keep following our buildup to the auction on 5 November in Geneva, and you’ll be so well informed about the lots that you’ll be able to guess with pinpoint accuracy their final sale prices! Just kidding — the beauty and joy of Only Watch is that it always ends up surprising us. How dull life would be if everything was known beforehand.
Speaking of exciting and unpredictable results, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) is also getting ready to move into the fast lane. The Academy of the GPHG just completed their second round of voting a few weeks ago, and the nominees have been successfully winnowed down into 15 categories of six watches each. The competition is fierce, but that’s kind of the whole point — there’s no fun in a competition where the winners are obvious from the outset. It goes without saying that you can definitely expect to see your beloved WorldTempus team at every point in these proceedings, asking the questions that you want answers to.
Time is ticking, my dear WorldTempus family, and it’s particularly appropriate that this year’s theme for the annual release of the Millennium Watch Book is chronographs. The launch takes place at the end of October, but pre-orders are already open online. Everyone is getting in on the theme, even our friends over at the Fine Watch Club, who have partnered with award-winning brand Singer Reimagined to bring you a limited edition of their innovative FlyTrack model.
We may only be in September, but we’re already looking at enough watch news to last us until the end of the year. Try and keep up!
