The holiday blues or Post Travel Depression (PTD) as it is called in medical terms is a real thing. I mean, anything with its own acronym has to be serious, right? So as many of you go begrudgingly back to work this week, you may be experiencing sadness or anxiety, or a sensation of being overwhelmed by all the emails that are waiting for you, or just plain unmotivated. But if you love watches, there is hope!
Reconnect with Watch Friends
The first event on the watch calendar after the summer break is Geneva Watch Days. This is one of the most fun events on the watchmaking calendar as over 40 brands will be exhibiting in the luxury hotels along the Geneva lakeside. Everyone is excited to reconnect after the summer break. It is a little like going back to school and finding all your friends in the playground. If you are not in Geneva, why not connect with a local watch enthusiasts’ group, like our very own Fine Watch Club who are always getting together? This week they are on field trips to Ulysse Nardin and Hermès if you want to join them. There is nothing like sharing your passion with others to bring you some good vibes.
Treat Yourself to a New Watch
The one thing that I always loved about going back to school was getting new gear – a new bag, new shoes, new pens, a new pencil case, etc. For grown-ups, we can also rekindle this joy of starting afresh with new things to motivate us. No prizes for guessing where I am going with this one! A new watch is the perfect way to go back to work in style. But it is not just about having a new acquisition, it is mainly about all the lovely comments you are going to receive from your work colleagues when they spot that new timepiece on your bronzed wrist. Compliments are pure vitamin C for the soul.
Create an Account on WorldTempus
If you have had an extended vacation, you may not have noticed that we have a brand-new website at WorldTempus. Our new corporate colours are turquoise (like the crystal waters you may have been swimming in) and orange (for cocktails and sunsets). So just browsing through our website will most certainly make you feel better. But it doesn’t end there, you can now personalize the site to bring you all your favourite brands, so every time you swing by, all the watches on the homepage are going to make you smile. How amazing is that?
Organise Some Meetings Outside of the Office
The next tip is my personal favourite. If you follow us closely, you will know that we are not the kind of watch writers who always study watches inside. You are just as likely to find us in the water, up a mountain, or doing some kind of sporting activity because we love testing watches outside. This philosophy has also extended to our meetings with watch professionals during the watch shows, so instead of meeting CEOs at their booths during Geneva Watch Days, we are going to be interviewing them on a speed boat on the lake. Why not give it a try, take your clients or colleagues for an ice cream, or a walk outside, it makes all the difference to your mood.
Plan Your Next Trip
Another great way to get over the holiday blues is to book another holiday. Having something to look forward to always helps you to feel better. And we have a few suggestions for you as we have been travelling and watch testing all year. Discover our Swiss watchmaking holiday guide, our travels to Kenya with ArtyA, our adventures in Scotland with Leica, and Les Dents de Midi with Alpina, to name a few.
We hope you have enjoyed our tips and that the return to work is feeling just that little bit easier than it did when you started reading.
